Planetary Matte Painting: Provisha
Thursday November 3, 2011
Thurston needed some illustrations made up for his game he was putting together for JimCon, a new local gaming event. To start, he needed a planetary illustration.
"The planet is dark blue sphere dotted with lit up cities (visible from orbit) and strange lakes of violet. Various thin spires jut up from the planet's surface, each an emitter in a vast invisibile shield. Lighting arcs from the edges of these spires in strange displays. A larger spire comes up from the planet past the height of the others and acts as a docking point for those to enter outside the shield."
This is what I came up with after a few further clarifications to his description. It's not at all polished, but I really enjoyed the colours of it, and I managed to pull it together in a short amount of time.
Up next for this project: two alien illustrations and a ship. It's sure to be fun, and I love a challenge! JimCon is sure to be a fun place to be this year.
